Santa Cruz Warriors team and coaching staff visited Second Harvest Food Bank in Watsonville, packing over 4,000 pounds of food to be delivered to 107 Santa Cruz County families. The second oldest food bank in the nation, Second Harvest serves over 55,000 local residents each month to ensure no community member goes hungry.

Coach Aaron Miles made a surprise visit to the Warriors Basketball Camp in Saratoga to talk about his journey from being a Warriors undrafted training camp invite to head coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors and what it was like to be on Steve Kerr's coaching staff during the NBA Finals.

Santa Cruz Warriors coaches hosted COACHES FOR KINDNESS with Nordic Naturals, Bookshop Santa Cruz & Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County. Coaches talked to the Big/Little pairs about the importance of reading, read books, played games and made bookmarks. And, each youth in attendance got to pick a book to take home.

On Friday, May 26th, the Sea Dubs, in partnership with FoodWhat?! and Kaiser Permanente, hosted a Warriors Water Station for 250 students from Santa Cruz County at the FoodWhat?! Strawberry Blast. The FoodWhat?! Strawberry Blast is an event for middle and high school students throughout the county that uses strawberries to focus on student health, the Santa Cruz food system, and relevant food justice issues. At the Warriors Water Station, the students were provided with water bottles and bowls of fruits to make their own custom infused waters with direction from Warriors’ front office staff. FoodWhat?! is a youth empowerment and food justice organization serving local low-income teens using food and farming as a vehicle for significant diet change, job training, and profound personal growth. 

On Wednesday, February 1st, over 90 volunteers to include the Santa Cruz Warriors players, coaches, front office staff, season ticket holders, community partners, and Coastal Watershed Council volunteers spent two hours cleaning and beautifying the Santa Cruz Riverwalk along the San Lorenzo River.

Key partners for the event included the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Coastal Watershed Council, the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department, City of Santa Cruz City Councilmembers, Santa Cruz Warriors Season Ticket Holders, UCSC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, and youth from Nueva Vista Community Resources.

The Warriors Community Foundation and Santa Cruz Warriors along with The California Endowment (TCE), Building Healthy Communities (BHC), Good Tidings Foundation and the City of Salinas unveiled refurbished basketball courts at César Chavez Community Park. Courts were resurfaced and receive new backboards, nets, rims, striping and benches. The courts at César Chavez Park are an important step towards expanding the program to more rural, historically underserved communities such as Salinas.

The annual Taste of the Warriors event was held at the Kaiser Permanente Arena. Wine connoisseurs and food enthusiasts were treated to a night of delicious tastings from over 20 local wineries and restaurants. Basketball fans enjoyed some open court shooting, raffled on amazing prizes including signed Golden State and Santa Cruz Warriors jerseys, and took photos with the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy and the NBA D-League Championship Trophy. Warriors fans were also treated to a special appearance from dual champion James Michael McAdoo. The family friendly event also had a Kids Zone with a bounce house, face painting, and sweet treats. Guests also took home a custom Santa Cruz Warriors wine glass.

In honor of the Santa Cruz Warriors winning their first NBA D-League championship, the city of Santa Cruz held a parade downtown which included the Warriors front office staff, basketball operations team, and players. The parade ended with an autograph session at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, where Mayor Don Lane declared a proclamation for the month of May to be Santa Cruz Warriors month. 

Kaiser Permanente announced their expansion into Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, and Watsonville in a press conference at Kaiser Permanente Arena on April 19th. Afterwards, kids from Gault Elementary School were invited to participate in a GetFIT Clinic at the arena. Students heard from a doctor about the importance of living a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Afterwards, they went through different basketball drills such as dribbling and shooting with Santa Cruz Warriors Head Coach Casey Hill and John Bickle. The event ended with the kids receiving free Kaiser Permanente goodie bags.
